How to Protect Your Business During Peak E-Commerce Seasons

The rapid growth of e-commerce in Mexico has made campaigns such as Hot Sale one of the biggest revenue opportunities for retailers, but also one of the periods with the highest exposure to cyberattacks. In an interview with El Financiero, Antonio Fajer, President of Pentafon, warned that the increase in digital transactions is also driving the scale and sophistication of online fraud.

According to the Mexican Online Sales Association (AMVO), e-commerce in Mexico generates more than MXN $941 billion annually, while Hot Sale 2026 was projected to reach nearly MXN $50 billion in sales. This transaction volume creates a highly attractive environment for cybercriminals, who exploit the urgency of promotional events to launch phishing attacks, identity theft schemes, quishing scams, and financial fraud.

During the interview, Antonio Fajer noted that cyberattacks could increase by as much as 500% during Hot Sale, a growth rate that significantly exceeds that of e-commerce itself. This acceleration is largely driven by the use of artificial intelligence to automate fraudulent campaigns and expand their reach.

The scale of the threat also carries significant financial consequences. IBM's Cost of a Data Breach 2025 report estimates that the average cost of a data breach reached USD $4.44 million per incident globally, highlighting the operational, financial, and reputational impact organizations face when they lack strong cybersecurity frameworks.

In this environment, information security is no longer solely the responsibility of the IT department. It has become a strategic business priority. Pentafon helps organizations in highly regulated industries such as banking, insurance, retail, telecommunications, and fintech operate with high standards of security, business continuity, and availability. Its infrastructure is supported by the ANSI/TIA-942 data center standard, maintains availability levels above 99.9%, and is certified under PCI DSS Level 1 v4, the global benchmark for protecting sensitive information in payment processing environments.

"The growth of e-commerce also expands the attack surface. Consumer trust depends on a company's ability to protect every digital interaction."

Antonio Fajer, President of Pentafon

As digital commerce continues to expand, strengthening cybersecurity is no longer a reactive measure. It has become a competitive advantage that protects revenue, preserves customer trust, and ensures business continuity.
